Most kids thrive on structure and once they develop a routine, they tend to have more patience and understanding. To help establish good organizational skills, create a calendar for your child each week. Let them see in a visual format what they have in store for the week. Use a magnetic or chalk board to write or illustrate the events of the day and/ or week, for example: eat breakfast, brush teeth, wash face, put on clothes, clean room, story time, school, playtime, etc.
Use JTB Visual Schedule cards, or make your own using index cards to list common activities and empower your child to make decisions about what they would like to do in their free time. Choices may include going to the park, visiting the zoo, making a craft project, reading a book, visiting a friend, gardening, baking, dancing, etc.
At the end of the day, help make a story to recount the fun day you had together.
